What is recorded here

Crannog is a man-made island, often built with brushwood, soil and stone, where people lived above wet ground. In Aughlish and Samsonagh, that idea still fits the land: a small raised place surrounded by water or mud, made intentional rather than left to chance. The name preserves the act of building, not merely the shape now visible.

The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as CRANNOG. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
