COUNTERSCARP RATH: TULLYHERAN FORT in Tullyheran

COUNTERSCARP RATH: TULLYHERAN FORT

What is recorded here

Mud and memory collide where the Tullyheran fort still holds its shape against the Derry sky. The counterscarp cuts a shallow throat into the land, suggesting water once flowed there to keep intruders at a distance. People may have watched the horizon from that ridge, reading storm and threat in the same breath. The earth remembers the shape of human fear long after the names have faded.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as COUNTERSCARP RATH: TULLYHERAN FORT. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. Recorded protection: State Care. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
