Counterscarp Rath in County Antrim is an ancient earthwork where a ditch once cut back against invasion. The official record preserves only that name and a broad Christian-era date, leaving the builders and defenders unnamed. The shape implies a place where people dug deep enough to stop a charge, then lived beside the danger they had prepared for.
