What is recorded here
In Fardrum, the counterscarp rath still stands as a circular earthwork from the early Christian period, its buried ridge and broken stone marking a boundary people drew before written history. It is not a grand castle or a named hall, but a local shape of residence, defence or ritual, preserved in the field rather than in a book. To walk its edge is to meet the quiet confidence of ordinary life: a family, a feast, a dispute, a prayer, all reduced to a line of soil that still resists forgetting.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as COUNTERSCARP RATH. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
