Mortars and muscles built the counterforts of Dundrod castle, but the rath is older, round and unforced. A woman may have walked its ridge before stone, listening for the tide of life in her bones. The castle came later to prove its strength. The rath waited, patient and unmarked, holding the shape of the world before the world learned to name it.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as COUNTERSCARP RATH. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
