What is recorded here

Counterscarprath and its underground passage still lie hidden beneath Tawnybrack, preserved as a scheduled ancient landmark. The earth may hide a chamber where people once walked away from rain, heat or danger. That much is clear. What is less certain is whether they fled a battle, stored grain, prayed in darkness or simply avoided a brutal storm. The ground keeps that answer tight.

The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as COUNTERSCARP RATH AND Man-made underground passage. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. Recorded protection: Scheduled. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
