Coolaghmore Graveyard

Graveyard

What is recorded here

Coolaghmore Graveyard in County Kilkenny is where a strange limestone sheela-na-gig emerged during 1975 clearance work, having been buried there since the 19th century after travelling from a well in Kyle. The figure stands with a calm, earless face and one hand touching her vulva, while her bent leg points a heel back toward that same place. She now watches from a bricked-up window at Rothe House, perhaps still holding an unseen object in her larger left hand, carrying the memory of two different landscapes in her stone body.
Coolaghmore Graveyard is a graveyard in County Kilkenny, Ireland.
