This blue commemorative plaque records: Site of the House of Correction or 'Old Bridewell' circa 1642 to 1842, Usk's third Gaol until Usk prison was built. The first was the Garrison Tower in the Castle and the second was further along Bridge Street (now Gordon House) Recorded plaque organisation: Usk Civic Society.
The House of Correction, also known as 'Old Bridewell', served as Usk's third gaol from circa 1642 to 1842, preceding the construction of Usk prison and reflecting the evolution of penal institutions in the region.
