Cloonmore Ho (in Ruins)

Castle, unclassified

What is recorded here

No wall, gate or chamber survives at Cloonmore, only the house name and a castle claim repeated in later lists. The real building may have vanished before anyone drew it, or never have been a castle at all. What remains is a ghost inside a record, born from trust in a label rather than stone.
Listed in the SMR (1992) as ‘Castle, possible site of’ and identified with ‘Cloonmore House (in Ruins)’ named on the 1st ed. OS 6-inch map (SMR file). As there are no surviving remains of a castle at Cloonmore (see Cróinín and Breen report attached) the precise location of this castle must remain unknown.
