On 16 February 1992, four Provisional IRA volunteers died in a graveyard at Clonoe after the Special Air Service ambushed them during a machine-gun attack on the Royal Ulster Constabulary base at Coalisland. The sharp violence broke the quiet village, leaving Peter Clancy, Kevin Barry O'Donnell, Seán O'Farrell and Patrick Vincent dead while two others escaped.
