Clonmel Church (in Ruins)

Just inside E boundary wall of graveyard (CO087-01001-), ruins of rectangular church (19.5m E-W; 7.4m N-S); W end of interior densely overgrown. Appears to have had hipped roof, as end walls same height as side walls; roof no longer survives. Three window opes in S wall with brick arches, all now blocked up; central E window, also blocked, has stone segmental arch. Central door ope in W wall has segmental arch of brick; overhead is relieving arch. On site of ancient parish church of Clonmel which was in ruins by 1615 (Brady 1863, vol. 2, 145). Present church built in 1690s and maintained until 1805 when parish church moved to nearby Cobh town (Brady ibid., 148).
