Situated on flat pasture with good views in all directions. The settlement at Cloughjordan appears to have been founded by James Harrison, a Colonel in Cromwell's army, for former Cromwellian soldiers (Anon. 1986, 5, 13). Harrison built his own house (TN016-001003-) onto an existing tower house (TN016-001001-) (ibid.). In the Civil Survey of 1654-6 the tower house is referred to as a ruinous castle and bawn owned by Charles Carroll (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 288). In c. 1668 Cloughjordan is listed among the possessions of Viscount Dongan of Clane (ibid.). Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien. Date of upload: 22 September 2008
