Clehagh Stone Ringfort is a subcircular Donegal enclosure roughly eighteen feet across, bounded by a low stone wall that vanishes on the south where a natural scarp does the work of keeping intrudes out. Two faint rises in the northeast hint that someone once built a room inside the circle, perhaps a bedroom, perhaps a shrine, perhaps a place to watch the weather turn. The fort sits on a level platform sloping southwest, simple enough to overlook yet shaped deliberately enough to suggest that ordinary people lived there before the stones became a legend.
Internal diam. c. 17.8m. A subcircular area enclosed by a stone wall 1m high except on the S side where the natural scarp is used and a wall may never have existed. In the NE quad-rant two rises might indicate the remains of a struc-ture. It is situated on a level platform which slopes to the SW.
The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal. A description of the field antiquities of the County from the Mesolithic Period to the 17th century.' Compiled by: Brian Lacey with Eamon Cody, Claire Cotter, Judy Cuppage, Noel Dunne, Vincent Hurley, Celie O'Rahilly, Paul Walsh and Seán Ó Nualláin (Lifford: Donegal County Council, 1983). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated.
