Lough Gur is a cist whose exact field no longer answers to memory. Lynch wrote of many graves lined with stone near Lough Gur Castle, but O’Kelly warned that this is not the Kistvaen Field. The warning keeps the account honest because the cist may still be buried beneath an ordinary field, waiting for someone to stop treating the ground as dead.

The precise location of a cist within the townland of Lough Gur has not been identified. Mentioned by O’Kelly (1944, 24) as ‘cist graves’ and described by Lynch (1895, 290) as follows: ‘In a field now tilled near Lough Gur Castle [LI032-022034-] are many graves lined with stone’. O’Kelly (ibid) stated that, ‘It has not been possible to locate this site, but the quotation does not refer to the Kistvaen Field’.
