Dunleckny cist held two dead men in black earth, one in a stone box no larger than a child’s bed, the other beneath a single slab. Breandán Ó Ríordáin dug them out in 1955 after plough work broke the ground open. They had waited since before written history, patient as seeds, for someone to remember that death once wore no name at all.

Discovered in 1955 during ground disturbance and subsequently excavated by Breandán Ó Ríordáin (NMI). Two inhumation burials were uncovered, one in a short cist (L 0.80m; Wth 0.52m wide; H 0.32m) and the second underneath a slab. (Cahill and Sikora 2011, Vol. 1, 68-71).
