CIST BURIAL WITH URN (unlocated) in Ballywalter

CIST BURIAL WITH URN (unlocated)

What is recorded here

Nobody knows which clay the urn held or whose hands closed the cist, but the chamber still belongs to Ballywalter. It may have been a child, a hunter or a king forgotten before kings were thought of. The urn survived every storm that erased the chamber, which means the dead were not careless with the person they honoured.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as CIST BURIAL WITH URN (unlocated). Recorded period: PREHISTORIC. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
Cist burial with urn; likely dates to the Bronze Age. Represents a common form of early burial practice in the region, reflecting prehistoric funerary customs.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
