CIST BURIAL in Kinculbrack

CIST BURIAL

What is recorded here

Kinculbrack in County Derry, Ireland holds a prehistoric cist burial dating to the Bronze Age. Stones may have closed over a body before written history began, reducing a life to a small hidden chamber beneath the soil. The dead person is no longer named, but the act of burial still speaks. Someone cared enough to shape stone, move earth and keep the dead separate from ordinary ground.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as CIST BURIAL. Recorded period: PREHISTORIC; BRONZE AGE. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
Cist burial; Bronze Age. A small stone burial chamber, cist burials were commonly used for individual interments during the Bronze Age in Atlantic Europe.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
