Cill (Childrens Burial Gd)

Indicated on 1842 OS 6-inch map as lime kiln; not shown on 1904 OS 6-inch map. In commanding position on hilltop. Remains consist of earthen ramp of lime kiln (L 18.1m). Bowman (1934, 103) recorded church site and burial ground on Daniel Ryan's land but 'no sign of the church now. Five headstones, projecting about 6in over ground mark the sites of graves.' Present landowner did not know of burial ground but confirmed that land previously owned by Daniel Ryan. Field known as 'The Cill' may be referring to the lime kiln and possibly misinterpreted during making of 1937 OS 6-inch map.
