Church (Site of)

Situated in the N portion of a hollowed-out cairn (WI015-029002-) on the summit of Church Mountain. The foundations of a building (dims. 10.5m E-W; 7m N-S) containing some roughly dressed granite blocks, traditionally the site of a church and named as such on the 1838 OS 6-inch map. Some cut stone, possibly from a door or window, is reputed to have been removed from the site. The cairn was hollowed out forming a roughly circular enclosure and there is some indication that edge of the cairn was at one stage structured to form a bank (Wth c. 5m). There is a well known as 'St Gad's Well' (WI015-029003-) excavated into the cairn at the W.
