Church (site of) is a church in Ballyknockane (Templetouhy parish), County Tipperary, Ireland. The surviving south wall measures 11.3 metres in length and 0.7 metres in thickness. A roadway built later cut through the west side of the wall, exposing this section on the low rock rise.
Situated on a low rise of rock outcrop in undulating countryside. All that survives of the church is a small section of the S wall (L 11.3m; wall T 0.7m) which was revealed by the construction of a roadway which intersects the church wall at W on a N-S axis (Stout 1984, 100). Depicted as a graveyard with a church in ruins on the 1st edition OS 6-inch map. Described in the OS Letters as a 'destroyed church with only the fragmentary remains of one wall surviving in a deserted graveyard' (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 2, 85).
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
