Church in Templerainy

Situated on the E side of a public road in gently undulating terrain. A very overgrown nave and chancel church. The chancel (dims. 15.9m x 6.9m) is built of large blocks (wall Wth c. 1m) and has antae, indicating an early date, while the nave is wider and is built of smaller stones. Located towards the N end of the graveyard which is shown as a subrectangular enclosure (max. dims. c. 40m E-W; c. 30m N-S) on the 1907 OS 6-inch map. The enclosure is defined by an earth and stone bank, with an external fosse at the N. Only one 17th-century headstone survives although the Ordnance Survey Name Books mention several 17th- and 18th-century examples.
