Church (in Ruins)

Situated on the low-lying flood plains of the river Brosna. Ruins of a simple rectangular church (ext. dims. 8.5m N-S; 24m E-W; wall T 1m) built with irregularly coursed limestone blocks giving the masonry a cyclopean appearance often found on early medieval churches. The walls are in places covered in overgrowth and survive to a max. height of 0.5m on all sides. No architectural features evident with no evidence of a door. A bronze bell and its shrine were found in the nearby river in 1849 and were locally associated with the church (JRSAI 1868-9 Vol. 19, 347-8). Situated in the centre of an ecclesiastical enclosure (OF014-004002-).
