What is recorded here

Located in the centre of a raised graveyard on the N side of Killester Avenue and surrounded on all sides by housing estates. All that survives of the medieval parish church of Killester are foundations of a rectangular building aligned E-W (int dims. L 14.1m, Wth 6.4m, wall T 0.82m). In 1838 the ruined church was still standing (D'Alton 1838, 239-41; Walsh 1887, 225). According to D'Alton (op cit) this church was dedicated to St. Brigid and was attached to the church at Swords. This is the decayed chapel mentioned in the Civil survey (1654-6, see Simington 1945, 73). The memorials in the graveyard are of 18th-19th century date.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
