Church (in Ruins)

On a low flat-topped rise, on the E side of Dinish Island. The remains of this rectangular church (int. dims. 7.5m E-W; 3.52m N-S) consist of low ivy-clad drystone walls (T 0.92m; H c. 0.7m) which show evidence of rebuilding in several places. The featureless doorway (Wth 0.5m) is near the W end of the S wall. There is a cut-stone water spout (0.38m x 0.55m; D 0.05m) on top of the wall to the W of the entrance. The uneven surface of the interior is covered by low vegetation overgrowth and no grave-markers are evident. There are the remains of a low square structure (L 1.3m), an inserted feature, in the SE corner. According to local information, a well (KE101-004001-) c. 150m to the SE was associated with the church. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry.
