Church in ruins

On the N side of an irregular-shaped graveyard (KK031-004002-). The surrounding field to the N is known locally as the Mass Field.  According to Carrigan (1905, vol. 4, 39), this church, known in Irish as, ‘Teampull a’ Daingin, is now a complete ruin. The west gable is destroyed; much of the north side-wall, and small portions of the other walls remain. There was no division into nave and chancel. No tradition, holy well, or memory of the patron. This church was a “Capella” belonging to the Priory of Kells down to the great Suppression’.  A medieval church (Wth 6m) in very poor condition, the incomplete N wall (L 10.5m; H c. 3m; T 1.1m) survives and a small portion of the S wall (L c. 2m; H c. 1.5m; T 0.5m) survive, but neither the E or W gable are upstanding. The N wall has an internally splaying window embrasure (int. Wth 1.25m) 2.5m from the E end and traces of another window (int. Wth 2m) 3.2m to the W (6.95m from the E end of the N wall). The modern N boundary wall of the graveyard runs up against the upstanding W end of the N wall of the church. There is a low grass-covered bank (H 0.3m) possibly on the line of the E gable.
