Church (in Ruins)

In Rockmills, in N side of graveyard (14545). Former C of I parish church of St. Nathlash. Trigonometrical station indicates position of church on 1842 OS 6-inch map, which is named 'Church'. Built in 1812, on or near ancient parish church of St Nathlash (14397); interior fittings of new church paid for by Richard Aldworth (Brady 1863, vol. 2, 363-6). In 1889, after unification with Farahy (see14715), church demolished except for tower and steeple which still stands. Tower 3-storey, and occurred at W end of church: string course marks each floor on external elevations; walls topped with parapet wall; crowned by octagonal limestone spire. Round-headed entrance door on S side flanked by round headed window, D-shaped niche overhead. Niche for heating stove on internal N wall.
