Church in Gully

On elevated site in graveyard on W side of Bandon. St. Peter's church built 1849 on site of church built 1614 with assistance from Sir Richard Boyle (O'Flanagan 1988, 10). Cruciformed church (long axis E-W) with aisles;chancel extended. Pinnacled tower on N wall. Many 18th and 19th century monuments within. Limestone waterfont in use dated 1719. Sub-rectangular graveyard enclosed by retaining stone wall (max. ext. H 4.5m); wall to S incorporates part of town wall (3321); wall to E along line of town wall. Graveyard extended to W. Headstones date from mid 18th century to present day. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
