What is recorded here
According to Power (1908, 64), within Carrigavisteal there is a 'Seana Shéipéal -“Old Chapel”, where stood, till sixty years or so since, the Catholic church of the parish'. This may have been a penal chapel. It remains unlocated within the townland.
