Church in Borris

Church

What is recorded here

According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) a church was owned by Edward Masterson in 1641 (Simington 1953, 161). It was on an extensive estate of 1000 acres in Kilrush parish including land at Borris, Knocknalure, Ballynaberny, Ballycadden and Kiltyle (Kiltilly) townlands. This probably refers to Kilrush parish church (WX010-013001-) in Ballynaberny, although an index to the Survey suggests that the church is in Borris (ibid. 291), in which case it is unlocated. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload; 11 April, 2012 Amended: 13 May, 2014
