Childrens Burial Ground

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Childrens Burial Ground in County Mayo, Ireland, is a registered children's burial ground, though no public file explains when it stopped receiving the dead or why those small graves were set apart. The name itself admits the tragedy: local people recognised the site as belonging to children, not adults, and preserved that distinction across generations. Whatever ceremony or disaster filled it, the ground still asks to be seen as a place where young lives ended and were honoured separately.
The Archaeological Survey of Ireland (ASI) is in the process of providing information on all monuments on The Historic Environment Viewer (HEV). Currently the information for this record has not been uploaded.
