Children's Burial Ground: This poorly preserved enclosure, 26m N-S x 25m E-W, is located in level pasture on the N side of the Valencia river estuary. The enclosing bank is of earth, survives to an average height of .7m, and is, on average, 2.75m wide. A 4m wide gap occurs at E, but it is not clear if two large slabs here, standing 5.1m apart, formed part of the original entrance. The interior contains a large number of low, uninscribed grave-markers. The site was no longer in use as a burial ground by the late nineteenth century.
The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 1036. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
