Childrens Burial Ground (Disused)

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

No exact date is written, but the small stones and separate ground suggest adults recognised childhood loss as different from adult death. Cattle still walk the pasture above the graves, unknowing of the shape beneath their hooves.
On a hillock in undulating pastureland immediately to the E of a stream. This children's burial ground is defined by a trapezoidal area (19.7m NW-SE; 11m NE-SW) which is enclosed by a poorly preserved bankof earth and stone. Within the interior numerous small set stones indicate graves aligned NE-SW. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 29 August 2019
