What is recorded here
Childrens Burial Gd. marks a lost field of infant death in County Galway, though no grave or ridge remains visible today. The land may have swallowed small bodies during fever years or difficult winters, leaving only a name behind. Forgetting the children is easier than carrying them, yet the preserved name refuses that relief.
Associated with an earthwork (GA029-171----). Named but not clearly marked on 3rd ed. of OS 6-inch map (1932). No visible surface trace survives.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999).
