What is recorded here
Childrens Burial Gd. is a children's burial ground in County Galway, Ireland. It lies within a damaged moated site and still holds small set stones that mark north-south graves. The lost young bodies may have belonged to a nearby household, a passing family, or a forgotten local line. Their names are gone, but the stones still arrange the field into rows of small, serious events.
Within the interior of moated site (GA028-032----), the S section of which has been totally destroyed by quarrying. The CBG occupies the entire extant section; it comprises an irregularly shaped area (E-W 31m, N-S 14.5m) within which numerous small set stones indicate graves oriented N-S.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999).
