What is recorded here
Childrens Burial Gd is an irregular grassy area in West Cork where young lives may have returned to soil before markers could be named. A low scarp and field fence still mark its edge, yet ploughing may have erased the proof. The children likely belong to the nearby household or parish, caught between domestic love and the brutal simplicity of rural death.
In pasture. Irregular area (12.8m N-S; 6.1m E-W) defined to E by field fence and elsewhere by low scarp (H 0.8m). No grave markers visible possibly due to recent ploughing.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
