Childrens Burial Gd. (Disused)

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Children died young in County Galway and were buried inside a rath until the ground stopped receiving them. The 1947 map still calls it a children's burial ground, though no marker, ditch or mound remains for anyone to point at. Forgetting did not erase the children; it returned them to the soil and the soil to grass.
Within a rath (GA099-183----). Named 'Children's Burial Gd. (Disused)' on the 1947 edition on the OS 6-inch map. No visible surface trace survives. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 24 April 2018

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
