Children's burial ground in Shanclogh

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Shanclogh children’s burial ground lies immediately south of a possibly medieval church in County Galway. Its numerous graves are marked with small plain limestone boulders, not tall stones or showy symbols. The place belongs to the young dead of a local community, and that fact makes the whole field feel both tender and terrible.
Immediately to the S of a church (GA112-041----) that is possibly of medieval date. According to Korff and O'Connell (1985, 6), the graveyard (GA112-041001-) associated with the church was 'used in more recent times as a children's burial ground'. The numerous graves are marked with small plain limestone boulders. Compiled by: Olive Alcock Date of upload: 3 April 2020
