Children's burial ground in Rath More (magunihy By., Rathmore Ed)

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Children died young in Rathmore and went into that hidden ground beside the church, not the adult graveyard. No stone or mark broke the grass to tell where they lay. The adults probably believed the children needed a separate place, close enough to God but far enough from the living to keep everyone sane.
In an ecclesiastical enclosure (KE068-006001-). According to local information, children were buried here. There are no visible remains of any graves or grave-markers. Compiled by: Elizabeth Byrne, Ursula Egan and Sheila Ronan, Archaeological Survey Unit, University College, Cork. Date of upload: 31 January 2011

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
