Hawthorn strangles the mound where children were buried, hiding limestone markers beneath a canopy of white blossom and shadow. The pastureland swallows the edge of the grave, forcing anyone who seeks them to push through thorns and breathless heat. What was lost is not gone, only folded under living wood, waiting for hands brave enough to remember the shape of the stones.

In pastureland. According to local tradition, this hawthorn-covered mound was used as a children’s burial ground. A number of limestone grave-markers are visible in the overgrowth (information from B. Doherty, Galway Community Archaeologist).
