What is recorded here
Situated in a slight hollow on a gentle E-facing slope just outside Ferns village and immediately on the W side of a SE-NW road. There is a local tradition that children were buried in the SE corner of the field, but nothing is visible at ground level. Archaeological testing (18E0335) in the N part of the field immediately to the S failed to produce any related material (McLoughlin 2018; excavations.ie 2018:053).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
