Children's burial ground in Keel East

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Keel East holds a children's burial ground, a rare admission that the landscape recorded loss instead of pretending it away. The fact that it is named as such suggests the community marked small deaths separately, perhaps because childhood loss felt different even when the grave dirt was the same. It is not a display or a warning. It is a place where young life ended and was remembered without being turned into a lesson.
The Archaeological Survey of Ireland (ASI) is in the process of providing information on all monuments on The Historic Environment Viewer (HEV).
