Children died young in Garrane East and the community gave them a small rectangular field at the SW corner of a cultivated plot, leaving the ground uneven and overgrown while bushes marked its northern and eastern edges. The site faces the Laune river estuary and Castlemaine Harbour, as if the children were laid where the land still looks out to water. It remains a burial ground in local knowledge even though no map gives it a name, and that absence makes the place harder to forget.

Not marked on the OS maps, this rectangular area is located in the SW corner of a cultivated field and is known locally as a burial ground. Measuring 21m N-S x 23m E-W, its N and E sides are defined by bushes and the surface of its interior is uneven and overgrown. The site overlooks the Laune river estuary and Castlemaine Harbour to N.
