Children's burial ground in Drommartin

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Children's Burial Ground in Drommartin, County Kerry, appears on the 1841-42 and 1916 OS maps, but the field corner has been completely ploughed out. The loss is not abstract: a quarry now lies immediately east of the place where children were set to rest. What remains is a gap in the land, marked only by name and memory.
Situated in the corner of a field, this site has extensive views of the surrounding land. Marked on the 1841-42 and 1916 OS map as 'Children's Burial Ground', this site has been completely ploughed out. Immediately E of it lies a quarry. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 871. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 3 August 2013

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
