Children's burial ground in Dookinelly (thulis)

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Dookinelly in County Mayo held a children's burial ground, though no further detail has emerged about when it was used or who laid the young dead to rest. The land may have swallowed infant lives during fever, famine or ordinary childhood vulnerability, while adults watched helplessly from a distance. Even without names or dates, the classification itself refuses to disappear, marking a place where joy and loss collided before anyone learned to speak.
The Archaeological Survey of Ireland (ASI) is in the process of providing information on all monuments on The Historic Environment Viewer (HEV).
