Carrowkeribly holds a small square platform of earth and stone, built against the inner bank of an ancient rath in County Mayo. Local tradition says unbaptised babies were buried there, keeping the smallest lives inside the protected circle rather than casting them out. The platform remains low and quiet, its edges marked by a thin stony scarp, inviting wonder about the children it held and the hands that placed them there.

In the SW quadrant of a rath (MA039-082----). A low, square earthen platform (5m NE–SW; 5m NW–SE) defined by a stony scarp or remnants of a wall (Wth 1.2m; int. H 0.1m; ext. H 0.2m) abuts the inner face of the rath bank at SW. According to local tradition, it was used for burials of unbaptised babies. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 1 April 2020
