Children's burial ground in Carnagh East

Carnagh East holds a children's burial ground inside a cashel on a slight southwest-facing slope. Stone markers, cairns and a worn bullaun stone still occupy the enclosed space, suggesting that adults once brought their dead infants to a place they considered clean enough for prayer. The arrangement denies the usual assumption that childhood death belongs only in forgotten fields. It belongs instead to memory, witness and the continued presence of love.
