Children's burial ground in Ballynacloghy

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Children died young in Ballynacloghy and were buried inside the rath, perhaps beneath scattered stones near the southwest bank. The underground passage nearby suggests the place remained active, visited, or hidden from ordinary sight. Whatever happened there, the children belong to the land still.
Within a rath (GA102-002----). According to local information, there was a children's burial ground within the interior of this rath. Some stones scattered near the bank at SW may indicate its location and other stones visible in the fosse between NE to SE may be displaced grave-markers. A possible Man-made underground passage (GA102-002002-) is also associated. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 7 December 2016
