Children's burial ground in Ardkill

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Ardkill is not a child graveyard at all. Gannon wrote that it was one, but no child grave appears anywhere near the rath. The claim may have come from a boundary marker, a lost lane name or a warning people repeated until it became history. The rath itself still stands, and that is the part the story cannot erase.
In the interior of rath (RO008C021001-). There is a record of its use as a Children's Burial Ground (Gannon 1972), but there is no visbile evidence of this. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
