Charlotte FitzGerald-de Ros, 20th Baroness de Ros, was born in Castlemartyr, County Cork, Ireland on May 24, 1769, entering the world with a claim to the most ancient baronial title in England. She carried that quarter-interest through marriage, motherhood and petition until the House of Lords ended the abeyance in her favour in 1806, passing Helmsley to a line that still answers to de Ros.
