What is recorded here

Charles Maturin was born in Dublin in 1780 to a line of French refugees who escaped religious persecution and found shelter in Ireland. He became a clergyman and writer, but history remembers him for Melmoth the Wanderer, a novel about a man cursed to walk the earth forever seeking death. That story of endless wandering and desperate longing crossed borders, touching writers in France and America long after Maturin died in Dublin in 1824.
